Rescue Of Scared Abandoned Dog Has Sweetest Ending

My heart broke in the beginning, she was just so frightened

When animals are traumatized, it can be difficult for them to feel safe around people again. Regaining the confidence of an animal who has been harmed by people in the past requires patience and tact, whether they were mistreated, abused, or both. The team from Hope For Paws are experts at saving animals from all kinds of risk.

They are based in Southern California and rescue any animals in distress…even those which do not have paws!

They get a call one day to come pick up a particularly terrified puppy.Cheryl Cook, a local, contacted Eldad of the Hope For Paws team to alert them to a small petrified dog who was terrified of people. Even from a distance, the dog was cowering in the corner of a doorway, terrified of Eldad.

Its tail trembles as it moves its tail between its legs.

The poor thing was so terrified that it trembled horribly as Eldad approached. Every piece of body language from this little pup speaks volumes about how traumatized this dog is by humans. She must have been mistreated by the people she met in the past.

Eldad has a lot of work ahead of him.

The first step is to restrain the puppy so that she a) does not flee and b) does not attack her rescuer. Eldad tries to capture this dog with his animal control pole, a pole with a lasso on the end. As instinct takes over, the pup’s fear manifests itself in aggressive outbursts.

This is the part that is more difficult to say than to do!

It’s much more difficult than it should be when the animal you’re attempting to save aggressively bites the tool you’re attempting to use to keep it safe.

Eldad then uses a slightly more domestic tool to secure the situation.

The humble blanket is the next piece of equipment used by this rescuer. Eldad initiates contact with the blanket. It enables him to apply a gentle stroking touch, and if this puppy lashes out and bites, he is not bitten. Eldad eventually gains the ability to place the blanket against the dog’s head and stroke her with his thumb. You need to have nerves of steel to do this job!Eldad is able to touch her after some time.Eldad begins to take the next step without the safety of the blanket. The overarching goal of this rescue is to gain this pup’s trust. It is critical that the pup understands that not everyone wants to hurt her as part of the rescue.

She’s starting to trust again after about 20 minutes.

She feels more at ease around Eldad after he wrestles her onto his lap. He can even tenderly stroke her head without her resisting. This dog appears to be on the road to regaining his trust in humans! She eventually nods off in his lap.It appears that the most difficult part has been completed, and for the first time, this dog, whom Cheryl suggests they call “Holly,” is at home with a human companion. It’s time to clean up after being returned!Holly needs a new clean look now that she has a new lease on life and is looking for a new home. If they are to find her a new home, she must be sparkling! Holly looks like a completely different dog when they’re finished, and she even gets an adorable little blouse to wear while playing with her new puppy pals in her foster home.
