is retired American has certainly had his fill of embarking on solo travels. Instead of looking for a new hobby, he chose to modify his kayak so that he could bring his two Golden Retrievers along.
Their debut performance was a huge hit! Susie quickly became addicted to this new hobby that she could do with her beloved human.
It was impossible for David and his wife to keep Ginger on the pier when they chose to adopt another dog. So David added another spot to his kayak so that he could bring both of his canine buddies along. According to TheDodo, he said:
When we got Ginger, I just put in another hole. It’s like a triple kayak, only there isn’t enough room for the paddlers to put their feet — but it’s perfect for a dog.
Susie and Ginger can sit comfortably while Davis rows and enjoy the ride. According to David, the dogs are very well-behaved in the custom kayak and know how to stay safe:
They are trained to get in the kayak themselves on command. They sit down, and off we go. When we come ashore, they’ll stay seated until I tell them it’s OK to get out. They never hopped out into the water, actually.
Ginger and Susie passed away after a long and joyful life full with aquatic adventures. David, on the other hand, cannot live without the company of animals for long.
In order to continue the comforting tradition, he now trains his new adopted pets to join him in the kayak. Here’s a guy who seems to know how to be happy!
