Being a K-9 puppy is challenging, particularly for new recruits without any experience.
On Monday, April 6, 2020, Brody, the newest member of the Bristol Police Department in Rhode Island, experienced a significant day.
It was his formal swearing-in ceremony that day.
The swearing-in ceremony is a significant event that ceremoniously brings in each new member of the community.
But Mondays are known to be difficult, which is why Brody’s swearing-in ceremony was held on that particular Monday.
Though I’m sure he was excited to start his new job, Brody seemed more interested in sleeping than in the ceremony.
This 12-week-old chocolate Labrador puppy slept through the entire ceremony, serving as a stand-in for his mate, officer Keith Medeiros.
After being broadcast live on the official Facebook page of the Bristol, Rhode Island Police Department, the ceremony rapidly became virally famous.
Brody was sleeping on the desk when Police Chief Kevin Lynch spoke passionately about the little man.
He slept through the entire ceremony and only woke up for the picture.
Brody’s handler, Officer Medeiros, told The Dodo, “He plays really hard, and he sleeps really hard.” It is tough for him to stay up when he is not playing since he is a heavy sleeper.
The dog seemed comfortable and cute, so it didn’t seem to worry anyone that he was resting.
In the roughly one million views the Facebook video has garnered since it was released, many have commended the little K-9 for relaxing.
“You need to get some rest right now since your work is just getting begun. Woof,” a viewer said.
Chief Lynch said, “This is a very big day for the Bristol Police Department and for our future.” When Brody awakens, we’re going to be really successful, and Bristol is going to love him. I’ll see to it that way.
Brody is the Bristol Police Department’s first comfort and therapy dog, part of a new initiative to improve town residents’ quality of life and maybe act as a community liaison between the police and the community.

After first debating whether to bring a bomb-sniffing dog, the police department decided to accept School Resource Officer Medeiros’ recommendation for a therapy dog.
Brody’s responsibilities will include socializing with neighbors, visiting elderly homes and schools, and offering comfort to victims of crime.
As essential members of the community, therapy dogs assist individuals in coping with stress, anxiety, PTSD, and a wide range of other emotions.
Moreover, it seems that Brody was just what Bristol needed—especially in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“People are really stressed out, especially in law enforcement,” Medeiros said. As soon as Brody and I go into the police headquarters, people grin. They immediately arrive at a better location. Their desire to give him hugs and pet him is simply a really sweet thing.
The little K-9 cop has a lot of work ahead of him, but I’m sure he’ll handle it with skill.
He’s about to enter an amazing period. He only has to make sure he gets enough sleep and rest.
