“It literally brings tears to my eyes to watch him interact with these birds.”One day, GiGi, a great horned owl, was brought to the Wild at Heart Rescue in Mississippi while she was on her last legs. The poor thing was all alone when she suffered a dangerous head trauma after being hit by a car.

“The fact that this bird has lived is beyond comprehension,” Missy Dubuisson, the rescue’s founder, said.She suffered a massive concussion, her body was full of parasites and she had a condition called aspergillosis, which is similar to pneumonia in humans. She was so ill that during the course of her treatment, she lost a whole pound of weight, which is around 20-50% of her overall weight.The owl was so grateful to her savior Doug that she couldn’t stop cuddling him when he came back from a trip

“This bird was one of the most critical we have ever taken care of”If there was anyone who could of taken care of Gigi, it would be Douglas “Doug” Pojeky who is also known as the “birds of prey whisperer.” Recovery probably wouldn’t have been possible if not for Doug.

GiGi trusted Doug completely.When Doug returned from a trip to visit his family, GiGi couldn’t contain her excitement. She started dancing and couldn’t stop cuddling him. “It literally brings tears to my eyes to watch him interact with these birds,” Dubuisson added. “They absolutely know him and trust him. It’s the trust that you see in her face.”
